Letter from Lucille Greeff:

IEA Conference Participants dancing on the roof in DenverThe past 6 weeks have been a busy and exciting time for Integrative. In early August I was privileged to attend my first IEA Conference in Denver, Colorado with Dirk. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the sessions, the people and the learning.

The conference offered me a wonderful opportunity to meet the broader Enneagram community in person, meeting the beings who before were faces on skype and names at the end of emails. Sharing a room with the amazing Ruth Shell, we quickly enlivened the conference landscape with our South African and Canadian flags.

Dirk Cloete and Lucille Greeff Presenting at the IEA Conference 2013Dirk Cloete's new appointment on the IEA(International Enneagram Association) Board of Directors also made me tremendously proud and as the IEA President from Chile, Maria Jose Munita rightfully said, there are now two Board Members from the South. At Integrative we will be supporting Dirk to make a contribution to the global Enneagram community and the IEA.

From a learning perspective, the conference included a lot of presentations around the space where Integral and Enneagram meet. Jeff Salzman's keynote got me straight into thinking about how we represent the Enneagram and type descriptions from a certain level of consciousness and how that may be inappropriate, especially in a country like South Africa where literally all levels of the spiral of consciousness are in play. I enjoyed and learned something from all the sessions I attended, but want to make specific mention of two.

Uranio Paes, an amazing practitioner from Brazil, hosted a session on the Enneagram and Energy work that enabled me to experience a wholly different understanding of the beauty of the Enneagram and renewed my respect for how powerful working with the Enneagram is and can be. Susan Olesek Enneagram Prison ProjectThe session enabled our group of participants to witness deeply spiritual and transformational work in the space where the process and personality Enneagram become one again. Thank you Uranio and all the people who were part of that workshop!

Susan Olesek from the Enneagram Prison Project hosted a live panel with two ex-prisoners about the difference the Enneagram is making in prisons and with reintegration into society. The two incredible men were very couragous to attend the conference and share their stories which made a powerful impact on all the people there. If you have not yet watched Susan's video about the work, watch it here [It takes a Village] and consider the difference we can all make to change our society and the world.

A couple of weeks after the conference Dirk and I were off to Copenhagen in Denmark to facilitate our accreditation programme. We also hosted a session at the IEA Denmark Chapter on the Enneagram and Team Development. Thank you to Claus Roager Olsen and Susanne Povelsen for hosting us. I am excited about the synergies that are developing and really enjoyed building relationships with the inspiring Danish practitioners who attended our workshop.

Jenna Avery Using the Enneagram for Story Development
"Jeff talked about how powerful the Enneagram can be for writers because of its archetypal patterning of human drives and behaviors that transcend cultural boundaries."

Mary Bast Going for the Gold - Alchemy in Coaching - Part One
"In coaching we have the privilege of witnessing both kinds of "gold". During my first few years as an executive coach, I was more focused on Olympian goals with my clients, who achieved their promotions, managed their teams for higher morale and productivity, or-in the bronze medal category of coaching-reinstated themselves instead of being fired. With some, however, my simply being present and mirroring encouraged much more, so I began to look for ways to reframe "going for the gold" in coaching. This is not about winning, not about being right, more caring, confident, unique, smart, inventive, strong, or content, but about a greater illumination."

Gayle Hardie and Malcolm Lazenby The Emotionally Healthy Leader
"The future of leadership development will not be about building "horizontal" capability - that is, the skills, abilities and behaviours needed to lead others. What has become obvious in current leadership research is that managers have already become experts on the ‘what' of leadership but are novices on the "how" of their own development: how to learn, grow and change in the way in which they relate to, lead and engage others. That is, their "vertical" development."

The Centres: An Integrative Perspective Lucille Greeff & Dirk Cloete
"There are different opinions regarding the centres and the way in which they relate to the nine Enneagram points. We would like to explore the centres through the lens of the fractal pattern that is structurally embedded in the Enneagram. We have observed three different yet equally valid ways of working with and interpreting the centres."

Scaling Enneagram Dynamics from Individual to Organisational Level Lucille Greeff & Dirk Cloete
"Most of us are familiar with the application of the Enneagram at the system level of the individual and dyadic relationship with others. When one considers the application of the Enneagram at other levels of organisational systems where multiple, complex and interwoven relationships and patterns of organising are enacted, a new set of questions emerge:
*What happens when you apply the Enneagram to make sense of a team or an entire organisation’s health and effectiveness? *What is the relevance of the Enneagram when applied at that level of the system rather than at individual or dyadic relational levels? *Can the Enneagram contribute to the resolution of complex and persistent organisation development challenges?"
