The INSTINCT SUB-TYPE

The instinctive sub-types, also called variants, provides insight into the predominant preoccupation people have in their impulses and more gut-type reactions. This layer of information is particularly valuable when considering relationship issues. Generally people have all three the instinctive sub-types available to them, but one of these will be more easily accessible and more frequently used by them than the others. In some of the literature, people refer to sub-type layering to exemplify how all three the sub-types relate to each other. The sub-types do not only offer standalone insights but also impact on the flavour of the main Ennea type in an individual’s profile.

The three instinctive sub-types are:

SP This is the Self-Preservation sub-type and indicates that an individual’s impulses are directed at self-protection. This is an “I, me, my” instinct.
SX This is the One-on-One sub-type and indicates that an individual’s impulses are directed at intimate connections. This is the “Us” instinct.
SO This is the Group / Social sub-type and indicates that an individual’s impulses are directed at group belonging and group interaction. This is the “We” instinct.
